Doris Derby, “Life at UIUC in the 1970s”

As part of the 1619 Commemorative Series hosted by the African American Studies department, Dr. Doris Derby will be giving a lecture on “Life at UIUC in the 1970s.” She received her MA and Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Illinois in the 1970s. She is a retired adjunct associate professor of anthropology at Georgia State University. Dr. Derby is an American activist, documentary photographer and was active in the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement. Her work discusses the themes of race and African American identity.
